Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday inaugurated and laid foundation for 331 buildings worth Rs 1,456 crore meant for the state police as well as prisons and reforms services through remote control. A function in this regard was held at Sankalp auditorium at the CM’s official residence.
The CM asked the home (police) department to instal solar plates on all police station buildings.He also stressed the need for continuous police patrolling and strict action against those creating disturbances. The CM asked the BPBCC to complete all the new and old projects on time.
Of the completed buildings that the CM inaugurated, 144 were constructed by Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation (BPBCC) with an expenditure of Rs 419 crore. While these buildings are meant for the state police, 26 buildings constructed by the same agency involving an expenditure of Rs 40 crore are for prisons and reforms services.
The CM laid foundation for construction of 173 buildings involving an expenditure of Rs 932 crore. Nineteen other buildings will be constructed with an expenditure of Rs 63 crore.
On the occasion, 1,220 smartphones loaded with eDAR (electronic detailed accident report) software that facilitates probe into road accident and payment of compensation were also distributed among the police officers. The CM, his deputies Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and transport minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary made a token distribution of five of these smartphones among police officers Puja Kumari, Pushpa Kumari, Harinarayan Kumar, Rahul Kumar and Khushboo Khatun.
As per the balance sheet of BPBCC, its turnover in 2022-23 was Rs 337 crore. The turnover, however, is expected to cross the Rs 500-mark in the current fiscal.
In the last three years, the BPBCC has constructed five police centres and 373 police stations and outposts. Work has also been done on 545 old police stations and outposts as well as 26 police centres with an expenditure of Rs 540 crore.
