Panaji: Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) on Saturday decided to set up a landfill and bio-methanation plant with a capacity of 15 tonnes per day (TPD) at Sonsoddo.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant chaired the 15th meeting of the board of directors of GWMC. The board decided that in the upcoming financial year, extensive information, education, and communication programmes will be launched.Sawant said that the campaigns on waste management will be conducted across the state involving MLAs, local representatives, and Swayampurna Mitras.
“Waste museums shall be set up on the premises of Saligao and Cacora waste treatment facilities to showcase the sustainable practices in Goa,” Sawant said.
The chief minister said the 15TPD bio-methanation plant at Sonsoddo will be set up on behalf of the Margao Municipal Council.
The board appreciated the operation and functioning of GWMC’s Saligao and Cacora solid waste management facilities, the common biomedical waste facility, and the common hazardous waste facility.
