Panaji: The construction work of ‘smart road’ at St Inez is on track, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) chief executive officer (CEO) Sanjit Rodrigues said on Saturday after reviewing works in the area along with representatives of contractor and other officials and engineers.
In the past, IPSCDL had said that the ‘smart road’ connecting Madhuban circle to Sheetal restaurant was delayed due to encroachments and obstructions.
Rodrigues interacted with one of the owners of the properties that have allegedly encroached on govt land and are creating hindrances in the work. He urged them to clear the encroachments at the earliest and enable the contractor to complete the work.
“We just reviewed the works and it is going on as per the schedule,” the IPSCDL CEO said.
The work is being carried out by clearing some of the encroachments, however there are also trees that are creating hindrances in the way of the project in the St Inez area, he had said.
The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), the agency executing the smart road project for IPSCDL has written to the forest department urging the authority to grant permission to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) for cutting trees. However, the department is yet to give its nod for cutting trees.
Civil works such as reconstruction of road pavement, storm water drain, utility crossing chambers, footpaths and landscape works are being carried out as part of the smart road project. Besides these services like new water supply lines, sewerage lines, electrical optical fibre cable and gas lines are being laid along the road.
