Apple Vision Pro Owners Report Hairline Cracking in Front Glass | – Times of India

A few Apple Vision Pro owners have reported hairline cracks forming on the front glass cover of the $3,500 mixed-reality headset, prompting questions over a potential design or manufacturing defect.
The first report emerged 18 days ago on the Reddit subreddit r/VisionPro, with a user posting a photo showing a clearly defined vertical fracture above the bridge of the headset’s nose rest.In the past week, four more Reddit users have shared near-identical images of similarly placed cracks, according to tech news site AppleInsider in an article published yesterday.
All Reddit posts claim the headsets were handled with care and stored properly, but still developed these hairline cracks out of the blue. Some owners say they left the Vision Pro connected to the charging battery pack overnight with the soft front cover on. Others mention packing it away with care in the official travel case after use.
The remarkably similar pattern and positioning of these reported cracks imply a singular weak point or production flaw rather than random accidental damage, which would likely manifest more randomly. However, no mainstream tech sites or Vision Pro user forums reflect this being a widespread epidemic at this early stage.
Without Apple recognizing it as a manufacturing defect, some users with cracks have reportedly been asked to pay $300 deductibles to replace the cover glass if they have AppleCare coverage or $800 without it. Apple has not publicly addressed the reports.

Possible explanations

Speculation from Vision Pro owners centers on excess pressure, overheating, or isolated production inconsistencies causing tension that propagates cracks in the glass cover. The area above the nose rest may represent a stress point where the curvature is more pronounced.
Apple continues to draw battery power when Vision Pro is idle to enable background tasks, though devices power down automatically if unused for over 24 hours. Overheating from background processes may be deforming the glass.
Too few cases have been reported publicly thus far for Apple to launch a formal investigation into potential hardware flaws. Users are advised to contact Apple Support to escalate issues.
