Farmers plan tractor march to Chilla Noida: Monday jams? | Noida News – Times of India

Noida: Following protests by Bhartiya Kisan Parishad and All India Kisan Sabha at NTPC Noida and in front of the Greater Noida Authority’s office, two more groups of farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Tikait and BKU Lokshakti, will hit the road this week to demand a law gauranteeing minimum support price (MSP).
On Monday, BKU Tikait will embark on a protest march with tractors that will head towards the Noida-Delhi border. Urging farmers to participate in the tractor march, Pawan Khatana, president of BKU Tikait (west UP), said, “We plan to line up tractors from Greater Noida to the Noida side and march along the Yamuna Expressway, moving towards the Chilla border via the Noida Expressway.”
Farmers from various villages will assemble at the Jewar toll plaza in Greater Noida. “From there, we will proceed towards Noida’s Chilla border,” said Khatana, adding that farmers from Noida can directly HIT the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
Talking to TOI, Khatana said that the farmers from different villages will gather to demand MSP for their crops.
“On the call of BKU Tikait head Rakesh Tikait and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), we have decided to organise a tractor march on Yamuna Expressway. We plan to line tractors up on the Greater Noida to Noida side of the expressway and march towards Noida. We will maintain discipline during the march,” Khatana said in a video, that is in circulation on WhatsApp.
Traffic disruptions stemming from the tractor march may significantly impact commuters. Earlier this month, an attempted march by farmers to the Chilla border was stopped by police but heavy barricading led to daylong snarls in Noida. A similar disruption could happen on Monday should police resort to diversions again.
As per the CBSE schedule, the Class X English exam, and the Class XII exams on taxation and artificial intelligence are scheduled from 10.30am on Monday.
DCP (traffic) Anil Kumar Yadav said he is yet to receive any information on the proposed protest by farmers. “We will make arrangements once they share the information of their protest,” said Yadav, adding that this group protested at the Surajpur collectorate on Wednesday.
On February 29, BKU Lokshakti is planning a protest at the collectorate.
Shyoraj Singh, the president of BKU Lokshakti, said farmers have various demands, including MSP, the implementation of the Swaminathan Committee recommendations, debt waiver, compensationin the event of natural disasters and prevention of stray animals from entering their fields. “We intend to march to the collectorate on Feb 29 and present a memorandum to the district administration regarding these issues,” Singh said.
Bhartiya Kisan Parishad and All India Kisan Sabha, which were staging protests at the NTPC offices in Noida and Greater Noida demanding higher compensation and bigger abadi plots, ended their ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest on Friday, following the formation of a three-member committee by UP govt to look into their demands.
