Nagpur: Supreme Court judge Abhay Oka on Saturday said that as India celebrates 75 years of Independence, the judiciary needs to introspect where it has gone wrong and accept the flaws.
Addressing lawyers at the inaugural session of ‘Access to Justice’ lecture series at the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court auditorium, Justice Oka called on them to make the justice delivery system more effective and citizen friendly.The lecture series is organised by ‘Project 39 A’ and ‘Fair Trial Fellowship’.
“In 50% of the cases the accused is not represented by a lawyer. This means that everybody doesn’t have access to justice,” said Justice Oka.
Justice Vinay Joshi, judge high court Nagpur bench delivered a welcome address.
Former and current HC judges, including Ravindra Chauhan, Vasanti Naik, Avinash Gharote, Anil Kilor, Mahendra Chandwani, Vaishali Joshi, and High Court Bar Association president Atul Pande attended the event.
