Pune: The committee under the Pune divisional commissioner has suggested a solid concrete wall on all three sides for the foot overbridge connecting the Metro station as part of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line, allaying any safety and security concerns to Raj Bhavan.
A senior revenue official said the committee checked for six options before giving their final report last week to the governor’s office.
Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which is implementing the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro line work, had sought transfer of 263.78 sqm of land from Raj Bhavan for the station over two years ago. However, the land transfer was delayed on the grounds of “security concerns”.
The governor subsequently appointed a committee under the Pune divisional commissioner to look for alternative design options. The committee including the Pune collector and police commissioner, among others.
The committee’s report stated that the option of an elevated foot overbridge (FOB) connecting the Metro station and entry and exit structures with solid concrete wall covering on three sides (Raj Bhavan, below and above the station) provided adequate safety.
“This option was considered as it can be completed within the timeline and without incurring any additional financial liability on the government. This will also not compromise with the security of Raj Bhavan,” said the senior revenue official on the condition of anonymity.
“With the submission of the report to the governor’s office, the final transfer of land will help speed up the Metro station work,” the official said.
The entire Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro line is likely to be completed by November this year and opened for use from April 2025.
