ROHTAK/NEW DELHI: Haryana police on Monday booked former BJP MLA Naresh Kaushik and 11 others in the murder of Haryana INLD president Nafe Singh Rathee even as Haryana govt announced it was ready to hand over the case to CBI.
The two-time Bahadurgarh MLA and party worker Jai Kishan were gunned down and two others injured in the Sunday’s attack that was caught on camera.Rathee, travelling in his SUV with four others, was waiting at a railway crossing when five unidentified assailants ambushed the vehicle and opened fire.
Bahadurgarh municipal council former chairman Karambir Rathee, Ramesh Rathee, former minister Mangeram Rathee’s son Satish Numberdar, Rahul, Kamal and Gaurav, all of them connected with BJP, and five unidentified assailants are the other accused. They were booked for murder and conspiracy.
Earlier in the day, family members of Nafe Singh Rathee and INLD workers in the presence of senior party leader and Ellenabad MLA Abhay Singh Chautala sat in protest outside the civil hospital in Bahadurgarh, refusing to allow post-mortem examination of the body till the killers were arrested. They lifted the sit-in after state home minister Anil Vij assured in the Haryana assembly that a CBI probe would be announced. The body was consigned to flames later in the evening.
Meanwhile, multiple Dellhi Police teams are learnt to have questioned jailed gangster Jyoti alias Baba, elder brother of UK-based gangster Kapil Sangwan, in connection with Rathee’s killing.
Jyoti was questioned for several hours, as was another gangster, Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi, inside Tihar jail on Monday, sources said. Jathedi is a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Sources said it was a case of contract killing and there was a spotter trailing the target. Jyoti operates with liquor barons of Haryana and Gujarat.
Sources said assailants had even conducted a recee of the area before executing their plan.Rathee’s nephew Sanjay Singh, who was driving the SUV at the time of the incident on Sunday evening, said the killers spared his life so that he could tell others about the murder.
