Blow to Congress as Two MLAs Join BJP in Arunachal Pradesh | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: After Assam, Congress faced a major setback in Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday with two of its MLAs switching to the saffron camp. Congress legislators Ninong Ering and Wanglin Lowangdong along with the ruling National People’s Party’s (NPP) Mutchu Mithi and Gokar Basar joined BJP in the presence of CM Pema Khandu in Itanagar.
The four legislators have already submitted their resignation letters to the speaker.
Prior to this, BJP had 49 MLAs in the 60-member assembly, while Congress and NPP had four each. Three are Independents.
The Lok Sabha elections and assembly polls in the state will be held simultaneously later this year.
Ering, a former Union minister in Manmohan Singh-govt, regretted not having joined the saffron party earlier. Associated with ABVP during his school days, Ering said he has finally chosen to reconnect to the Sangh Parivar.
He said he should have joined BJP during the 2019 elections itself but couldn’t do so due to some “technical reasons”. He would be happy to get a ticket for assembly polls, he added.
