Jaipur: JMC Greater and JMC Heritage have started taking strict action against defaulters to improve urban development (UD) tax collection this year.
JMC Greater has already collected more tax this year till Feb as compared to the corresponding period of last financial year. Officials have also started acting on illegal hoardings for which the civic body had been losing money till now.
JMC Greater administration has collected over Rs 100 crore this year as UD tax, advertisement tax, house tax, parking collection, among other parameters compared to Rs 114.65 crore collected in the whole financial year of 2022-23.
Janardan Sharma, deputy commissioner for revenue at JMC Greater, said, “We started issuing notices to defaulters in advance after which they are given 15 days’ time to respond. In the first notice, details of the amount due is sent, if the party wants to file a redressal, then they can do so within the 15 days. After this, they after given another 15 days’ time to pay the due, if the tax is still not paid then the property is attached. In this process, the speed for collection of taxes increased.”
JMC Heritage administration attached four properties in Hawa Mahal zone on Friday after the property owners did not respond to notices regarding timely payment of UD tax. Urban development tax of over Rs 12.70 lakh was outstanding by these property owners. In JMC Greater, similar action was taken on Friday, when owners of six commercial and institutional properties deposited the UD tax on the spot.
In Malviya Nagar zone, when action was taken on seven properties, six of them deposited the outstanding UD tax on the spot.
