Patna Municipal Corporation plans to open school of drama on lines of NSD in Delhi | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned to open a school of drama in the state capital, on the lines of New Delhi’s National School of Drama (NSD). With this initiative, the PMC will be the first municipal body in the country to run such an acting school, besides providing artists and theatre lovers a place in the city to showcase their talent.
Member of empowered standing committee of PMC and councillor of ward- 48, Indradeep Kumar Chandravanshi, said people go to the cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bhopal to pursue career and training in the field of arts. “If there will be a facility available in Patna, the talent of Bihar will not have to wander in other cities to pursue the career of their choice,” he said.
“A building has been built by BUIDCO under the Ganga riverfront development project at Raja Ghat, which is now in the possession of PMC. There are plans to use it for a drama school. A budget provision of Rs 5 crore has been made for further development of the area. Planned to be developed in an area of 5,000 square feet, the school will have 40 seats for students with facilities of diploma and degree courses affiliated to NSD. The candidates could be able to get training in drama, singing and dance by joining these courses,” Chandravanshi said.
“Promoting art and culture is one of the core works of the PMC and mayor Sita Sahu among other councillors are also interested in this project. Very soon the proposal will be passed in the municipal corporation meeting and sent to the art, culture and youth department for its nod. A letter will also be sent to the department for creation of posts for faculty in the drama school, so that effective initiatives can be taken in that direction,” he said.
“Renowned Bollywood artists, especially the Bihar actors, will be invited as guest lecturers in the drama school,” Chandravanshi added.
