Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has sent a proposal to the auction committee to auction 24 properties confiscated due to tax default in the current financial year.
The proposal is likely to be cleared within a week. It will be the first auction of confiscated properties by PCMC.
The civic body has so far confiscated 844 properties. A total of 451 properties have been sealed due to non-payment of tax dues, while water connections to 151 properties have been disconnected. These owners of these properties collectively owe Rs 18.5 crore of tax to the PCMC.
“We have appointed five govt valuers to evaluate the confiscated properties in our jurisdiction, due to which the auctioning process for these properties will happen faster. I appeal to the tax defaulters to pay their pending dues to avoid this action,” Pradeep Jambhale Patil, additional municipal commissioner PCMC, said.
The officials of the tax department have already issued pre-confiscation notices to the owners of properties whose tax due is more than Rs 50,000. “Pre-confiscation notices for these properties were issued six months ago. Besides, property owners are frequently reminded through telemarketing and messages. However, many have failed to respond to any appeal due to which action like confiscation or sealing of the properties and disconnection of water connections is being taken,” Nilesh Deshmukh, assistant commissioner of PCMC, said.
The civic body has so far earned Rs 773 crore through tax revenue in the current financial year. It aims to collect Rs 1,000 crore at the end of FY 2023–24. There are a total of 6.15 lakh registered properties in Pimpri Chinchwad.
