Chandigarh: Punjab Congress on Sunday challenged SAD to publicly announce that it would not have an alliance with BJP, a statement coming at a time when public sentiment in the state has been growing against the BJP over Haryana Police’s actions against protesting Punjab farmers.
Punjab Congress spokesperson Jaskaran Singh Kahlon on Sunday challenged the SAD and its entire leadership, including Sukhbir Badal, Harsimrat Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia, to show one post on any of their social media handles criticising the BJP for atrocities on peacefully protesting farmers. He asked the SAD leadership to show any such statement where they had condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar or Haryana home minister Anil Vij. The Congress leader said Shubhkaran Singh lost his life in a brutal attack by the Haryana Police and now another young farmer, Pritpal Singh, was undergoing treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh, for injuries all over his body. Responding to SAD chief spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler’s statement, Kahlon said the SAD, which called itself a panthic party, should be ashamed as it was taking credit for Pritpal’s transfer from PGIMS, Rohtak, to PGIMER, Chandigarh, after Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia met Haryana home minister Vij.
He questioned why Majithia did not ask Vij how Haryana Police entered Punjab’s territory.
