Jaipur: To make the parking complexes at Ramniwas Bagh popular among vehicle users, the urban development and housing (UDH) department plans to start shuttle bus or e-rickshaw services between the parking sites and marketplaces such as Bapu Bazar and Johri Bazar located on the other side of the Mirza Ismail (MI) Road.
Senior officials of Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) said this proposal has been on the table for the last few months and that it came up for a detailed discussion at a meeting of officials from different wings of the UDH department last week.
“Now UDH department or JDA would decide on the mode of transportation to connect the shuttle services between these parking complexes and the marketplaces. It is likely that Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) will run small buses on the route. The introduction of e-rickshaws is also being discussed, considering the narrow internal roads in the Walled City. The shuttle service would be free for users of the parking complexes,” a JDA engineer told TOI.
The two parking complexes together have a capacity of 2,445 vehicles. Only about 500 vehicles are parked there daily. The low turnout, claimed officials, is because people have to walk some distance to reach the marketplaces on the other side of MI Road by crossing the congested road.
