Jaipur: Two persons were killed and three others were injured after a speeding SUV rammed into an auto-rickshaw early on Saturday in Mansarovar.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Girdhari Lal Meena from the accident police station (south) stated that the deceased were identified as Vishwanath Giri (34) and Prafulla Nandi (29), both residents of Odisha who worked in catering services.
The police mentioned that Giri and Nandi were returning from catering work at a wedding when shortly after 12:10am on Saturday, a speeding SUV rammed into the auto from behind. The SUV then overturned.
Three persons, including two passengers and the auto-rickshaw driver, sustained injuries but were discharged after primary treatment at the hospital.
The official said that around midnight, they all took an auto-rickshaw to return home after finishing their duties at a wedding.
While passing through the Rajat Path intersection in Mansarovar, the speeding SUV hit the rickshaw from behind. “The SUV then overturned in the middle of the road, and its driver and other passengers fled from the scene. Seeing the injured writhing in pain, passers-by and several auto drivers rushed to the scene to attend to them,” said an official.
Passers-by informed the police and ambulance services. Police reached the spot and transported all the injured by ambulance to SMS Hospital. The doctors declared Giri and Nandi brought dead.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of the SUV driver being heavily intoxicated.
Officials stated that locals have captured video footage of the incident, while CCTV footage is being examined to help track down the accused.
