Salem: Two minor boys, aged 15 and 17, were arrested on charges of raping a 17-year-old girl at Deevattipatty near Omalur on Sunday.
While the 15-year-old boy is studying Class X in a government school, the 17-year-old boy and the minor girl are school dropouts.
The boys were arrested after the rape survivor lodged a complaint with Deevattipatty police.
“We received the complaint on Sunday morning and arrested the boys on the same evening,” Salem sub-division DSP A Amala Advin told TOI. He said the boys belonged to the vanniyar caste while the girl was a dalit.
“Though the boys were having sexual relationships with the girl with her consent, it will be treated as rape because the girl was a minor,” the DSP explained.
Police registered a case under the Pocso Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the boys.
“The boys will be lodged at the Borstal school after producing them before the magistrate,” the DSP added.
