Hyderabad: A 50-year-old man died and three others suffered injuries in an accident near Kattangur on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway in Nalgonda district on Sunday morning.
Govindu Balaiah, 50, a watchman at an apartment in LB Nagar, died on the spot, while his grandchildren received injuries.
According to police, the family, residing at LB Nagar, borrowed a car from a friend.They were on their way to visit a temple at Yerraram near Kodad in Suryapet district when the accident happened.
Around 6.30am, when they were on the outskirts of Kattangur, Balaiah’s son Govindu Lingaswamy, 29, a private employee, who was at the wheel, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a tanker from the rear. The tanker was parked in the layby on the highway, police said. Police suspect that Lingaswamy dozed off on the wheel resulting in the crash.
Lingaswamy’s son Naveesh, 7, suffered a fracture on his hand, while his niece Spandana, 19 also received injuries. Lingaswamy and his daughter Akrutha, 5, escaped unhurt in the incident, police said.
A case under Sections 304A and 337 of the IPC has been registered against Lingaswamy, Kattangur assistant sub-inspector Mohammed Afzal Ali told TOI.
