DIBRUGARH: A 10-year-old student has died of electrocution after allegedly tripping over a high-tension wire near a roadside ditch in Hollow village of Tinsukia district.
The body of Yug Gowala was discovered by locals on Monday.
According to reports, a high-tension wire passing through the village had snapped during a severe thunderstorm that swept through the area on February 24.The wire had gone unnoticed as it was hidden under thick foliage.
When Yug didn’t return home on Sunday, a search was launched and his body was discovered by villagers on Monday morning. It is suspected that he tripped on the unnoticed electric wire resulting in his death.
The victim’s body was sent to Sadiya Civil Hospital for post mortem. Locals have blamed the electricity department for the incident, accusing them of negligence and failure to maintain the safety of the electrical infrastructure in the area.
