Bhubaneswar: The traffic load on the Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road is set to reduce with the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) gearing up to build another alternative road in the area with the acquisition of 18 acres of private land .
The BDA conducted a public hearing on this matter on Monday wherein people affected by the new road project were invited to voice their suggestions and objections. The hearing was held in the presence of senior officials of BDA and local leaders.
The public hearing, mandated by the RFCTLARR Act of 2013, served to address objections related to the draft social impact assessment report of the project.
“A substantial turnout of local residents voiced their support for the endeavour,” reads a statement issued by BDA on the hearing.
Spanning 150-ft in width, the proposed road will connect Patia railway station to the right parallel road near Guru Kelucharan Park in Gadakana and play a vital role in decongesting the Jaydev Vihar- Nandankana Road.
Official sources said the around three-km-long road will not only enhance local mobility but also stimulate economic growth in Patia.
“Compensation for affected individuals will be provided in accordance with the RFCTLAR&R Act-2013,” they said. According to the social impact assessment report of the authorities, 94 people are affected by the project in Chandrasekharpur, 58 in Patia and five property owners in Gadakana. The report says that 80% people’s consent was necessary to go ahead for the land acquisition.
