Competency Exam: Contractual Teachers Find Questions Difficult | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: Contractual teachers of government schools, who appeared for the first ‘Sakshamta Pariksha’ or competency examination conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board on Monday, said the paper was easy to average in difficulty level while some complained that the questions were out of syllabus and more difficult than BPSC. Some of the teachers were thrilled as they appeared for their first-ever computer-based test (CBT).
Raj Kumar Sinha, a teacher at Purvi Madhya Vidyalaya in Imamganj-Gaya, said the CBT was a new experience for him and he wrote the exam with a cool and calm mind. “I have used the computer but never took the exam on electronic equipment. It was a good learning experience for me and I did not feel any exam pressure. As far as the paper was concerned,” he said, adding that standard questions were asked.
The exam will continue till March 6 at 52 computer exam centres located in nine districts of Bihar under the strict vigilance of the district administration. The examination was held in two shifts — from 10am to 12:30pm and from 3pm to 5:30pm.
A primary school teacher Babita Kumari was unhappy with her exam and complained that the questions were of a higher level than what she taught her students.
“I taught students of classes I to V, so I prepared for the exam accordingly but the questions were out of syllabus and most of them were of secondary level,” she said.
Anita Kumari also shared similar views about the difficulty level. “All the botany and general knowledge questions were tough. I had once cleared the BPSC tier I exam. The level of questions of the BPSC exam was easier than the competency exam,” she complained.
Gopal Kumar from Bhagalpur found the questions quite easy and was confident that he would score 65-70%. “Questions were asked from current affairs and subjects that we taught our students,” he said.
Another examinee, Kumari Alka said a total of 150 questions were asked and she attempted 140 of them and termed that the overall paper was easy. “Initially, we were against the decision of giving competency exam but this insistence of the government has also been fulfilled,” she said.
The officials of BSEB said the exam was conducted peacefully and no untoward incident was reported from any centre. Biometric attendance of the examinees was taken at the exam centres and there was a complete ban on taking mobile phones and any kind of electronic device at exam centres. Candidates were even asked to open their shoes and socks, before entering the exam hall.
The total number of government teachers employed in Bihar is around 3.5 lakh, of which 2.32 lakh of them have registered online for the competency test. The exam assesses the knowledge, skills and abilities of teachers in various areas.
The passing marks for the exam are 40% for the unreserved categories and 35% for the reserved categories.
