Gurgaon: A 35-year-old man from Nepal was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his wife at their rented house in Sector 53.
A cook by profession at a paying guest accommodation, the accused also tried to mislead the investigators by claiming that his wife died of ill health.
However, a postmortem examination revealed that she was throttled to death.
The accused identified as Tapraj Joshi (35), a native of Nepal has been working in Gurgaon as a cook for several years. According to Sector 53 inspector, Rajender, Joshi was provided accommodation in a room at his workplace in Sarswati Kunj.
He married Shanti Bugti—who is also from Nepal —in 2023 and brought his wife to Gurgaon a month back.
On Feb 24 morning, police were informed of Bugti’s death by the civil hospital staff at Gurgaon.
“On the intervening night of February 23 and 24, Joshi took his wife to the hospital where she was declared dead. Joshi brought her claiming that she suddenly fell ill,” said the inspector.
Bugti’s family didn’t believe Joshi’s story about her death, so the police visited their accommodation on Feb 24 but by then Joshi had tidied up the place.
“On Feb 25, Shanti’s postmortem was performed, and it was found that she was choked to death,” said the ASI.
Police took Joshi into custody and during the interrogation, he reportedly confessed to having committed the offence during an argument with Shanti about a personal issue. A murder case was registered against him.
The accused was produced before the court on Monday, and he was sent on judicial remand.
