Ludhiana: Deputy commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Monday directed the agriculture and farmers’ welfare department to ensure maximum benefits of various schemes launched by the Punjab govt to the farmers of the district.
Presiding over a meeting to review the functioning of the department here at the district administrative complex, the deputy commissioner said the Punjab govt was committed to the welfare of the farmers and sincere efforts were being made in this direction.She urged the officials to create a strategy that would ensure prosperity of the farmers of the district.
During the meeting, the DC was informed about the status of various schemes, cropping pattern of district, diversification programme, crop residue management, checking drive, sampling of seeds/fertilizers/pesticides, and soil health cards. She also called for laying emphasis on sensitization of farmers for cropping patterns as per the content/nature of soil.
The DC also directed the officials to prepare for a season-wise cropping map of the district. She laid stress upon adopting innovative practices to enhance farmers’ income with better production and providing alternative sources to them.
Chief agriculture officer Narinder Singh Benipal also gave an overview of the progress made in the various programmes.
