Delhi Police Launch Drive Against High-Beam Headlights | Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: In a drive against high-beam headlights in the city, Delhi Traffic Police aims at sensitising drivers about the dangers of using them.
Drivers usually use high beams in the absence of streetlights or while driving on damaged roads to spot potholes at night. “It can impair the vision of drivers in the opposite lane,” a traffic police officer said, adding high-intensity glaring light can startle and disorient drivers and lead to accidents.
Since Saturday, when the drive was launched, 277 motorists have been penalised with on-the-spot challans for flouting traffic rules by unnecessarily using high-beam lights.
An advisory has also been issued by the traffic police on X to inform people about the dangers. Drivers have been requested to use high beams only on highways and refrain from replacing headlights with cheap and counterfeit high-intensity discharge headlights. The use of these lights during foggy conditions may further reduce visibility, the advisory stated.
