Express service! Delhi section of expressway progresses at fast clip | Delhi News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari recently promised that the Delhi segment of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway would be ready by the end of this year. Work, accordingly, is picking up pace. Starting near the Sarai Kale Khan exit ramp of the Ashram flyover extension, the elevated corridor’s segment in the city extends up to the Mithapur MCD toll point, a total length of around 12km.
The eight lane elevated section of the corridor passing through the congested areas of Yamuna Khadar, Okhla Vihar and Batla House along the Yamuna riverbank is nearly complete. The downward ramp is being constructed near Maharani Bagh where the pillars have been erected. The ramp will cross the road near the Ashram entrance to the DND flyover. In the portion of the flyover along the Yamuna, the work is largely finished, with even the crash barriers on the sides of the carriageway now erected.
Starting at the Kalindi Kunj red light, concrete pillars are being constructed in the Agra Canal upon which girders will be placed. When TOIvisited the spot on Monday, the ramps were being constructed to connect this section of the expressway to the already completed flyover stretch from DND. This road earlier had seen encroachment and wild growth of plants, rendering it heavily congested and potholed. Now, except for a few spots, the passage is smoother because of road recarpeting. But the constant movement of trucks and machinery here does cause some problems for smaller vehicles.
Besides providing direct connectivity to Delhi-Mumbai expressway, this link from DND flyway can be used by commuters to reach Palwal in just around half an hour. Mathura Road, which is currently the only major road for vehicles heading towards Farida bad, Palwal, Agra and beyond, will be decongested when this new corridor becomes usable for the public.
Moreover, completion of this link will mean that people travelling from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand can drive non-stop to Mumbai taking the Delhi-Dehradun and Delhi-Meerut expressways. The Delhi-Dehradun and Del hi-Mumbai stretches are set to become operational in 2025.
After the Kalindi Kunj metro station, one can see diversions on the Kalindi KunjJaitpur road. The traffic diversions on the road have been made for commuters using this road to go towards Faridabad and further into Haryana. Here the road is uneven at some places and there is dust al so as the earth work is going in full swing to complete the concrete panelling. On the road, one can see girders laid down neatly in two rows with enough space for vehicles to move.
The entire segment from DND to Sohna will be 59km, of which around 12km is from Delhi to Mithapur. Beyond this point, the corridor falls in Haryana.
