Belagavi: Former Rajya Sabha member Prabhakar Kore said he has not been consulted by the senior leaders of the BJP regarding the selection of candidates either in Belagavi or Chikodi Lok Sabha constituencies so far.
Kore’s son Amit Kore has been lobbying for a ticket to contest from Chikodi. Recently, members of several gram panchayats held a series of press conferences in Chikodi taluk, urging the BJP high command to give a ticket to Amit Kore. On the other hand, in Belagavi, Kore’s close aide and former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath has already started meeting with the leaders and organising mega health camps to reach out to voters, with the hope of getting a BJP ticket.
It is being said that both ticket aspirants are backed by Prabhakar Kore. Meanwhile, speaking to media persons here on Monday, Kore said: “So far, BJP leaders haven’t spoken to me about issuing tickets or suitable candidates. If asked, I will tell them.”
Replying to a question about bringing his children to politics, the senior leader opined that the election environment isn’t the same as before. “I have never pressured my children to do anything. If they are interested in politics, they should do it. My son is doing well in the industry. He will be in politics if people wish for it. As far as my daughter Preeti is concerned, the party was ready to give her a ticket to contest from the Belagavi North assembly but I did not show interest,” he said.
