Kapp and Radha Shine as Delhi Capitals’ Bowlers Dominate UP Warriorz in Women’s Premier League | Bengaluru News – Times of India

Bengaluru: Batters often steal the show with their prowess and shape teams’ fortunes in the shorter format. But at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here, it was Delhi Capitals’ bowlers who were in the limelight. Medium-pacer Marizanne Kapp (3/5) and slow-left arm Radha Yadav (4/20) played pivotal roles in their nine-wicket victory over UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League on Monday.
Asked to bat first, Warriorz were restricted to 119/9 in 20 overs. With Meg Lanning (51) and Shafali Verma (64 n.o) around, the target did not pose any problem for Delhi, who cruised home in the 15th over.
Delhi dominated the game from the outset, with Kapp, who finished her quota in the first seven overs, setting the tone. Her economical figures (4-1-5-3) highlighted her domination. Bowling a tight line and length, she did not allow her opponents any easy freebies or second chances. The early wickets of Vrinda Dinesh, Tahila McGrath and Alyssa Healy put Warriorz in the back foot.
There was no relief for Warriorz thereafter, who had to face Radha after the powerplay. Even though Shweta Sehrawat looked good in her 42-ball 45, she did not find an able partner as Radha took wickets at regular intervals.
With Delhi possessing a strong batting order, Warriorz looked for some quick wickets. But the Shafali-Lanning duo scored at almost nine runs per over in the powerplay with the Indian smashing six fours and two sixes.
In the first six overs, Lanning, who was dropped at 15, played second fiddle. But the Australian gradually began to deal in boundaries as Shafali, who was dropped on 48 by Kiran Navgire, completed her half-century in 36 balls. New batter Jemimah Rodrigues hit the winning shot after Lanning’s dismissal.
Brief scores: UP Warriorz: 119/9 in 20 overs (Shweta Sehrawat 45; Marizanne Kapp 3-5, Radha Yadav 4-20) lost to Delhi Capitals 123/1 in 14.3 overs (Meg Lanning 51, Shafali Verma 64 n.o)
