MUMBAI: Traffic congestion on Western Express Highway is expected to ease this week as MMRDA gets ready to open a flyover at the T2 (airport’s international terminal) junction that promises to ensure smooth dispersal of traffic.
Need for the flyover
Peak-hour traffic at T1 (domestic terminal) junction. The high concentration of vehicles leads to massive jams Motorists coming from T2 via Sahar elevated road get bogged down in traffic at T1 junction while going towards Bandra.
The new flyover runs parallel to the existing flyover. It has two lanes and is 8 meters wide with a length of 615 meters.
The flyover will direct traffic towards Bandra from T2. Reduction in traffic will limit signal time. The flyover has been designed keeping airport funnel zone criterion under.
