Somesh, who had known Pankaj Udhas for more than three decades, used to consider him as his senior.“Shri Pankaj Udhas ji was already a star when I started my innings as a professional singer and I used to look up to him. He brought a certain freshness to the sound of Ghazal poetry and the overall packaging was brilliant and completely new and trend-setting,” he said.

During the candid conversation, he spoke highly of the Padam Shree singer and shared some lesser-known facts about Pankaj. “Only a few people knew about Pankaj ji’s association with charitable organizations. He used to maintain a low profile,” he mentioned.
“Also, he was instrumental in shaping the livelihood of several artists who were connected with him, and played with him. He helped them financially as well, which is a huge contribution from any artist to the community,” he added.
Pandit ji, who shared the stage with Pankaj Udhas several times, revealed he learned several valuable life lessons from him. However, the one that he considers the greatest learning is how to conduct oneself as a performer on stage. “He taught me how to entertain the audience in a simple yet classy style,” he exclaimed.
Last but not least, when asked to share his final tribute for the late artist, Pdt. Somesh Mathur concluded, “Dear Pankaj ji, your evergreen compositions, songs, poetry, concerts, albums, and of course, all of your philanthropic work are deeply embedded in our hearts. Your music is evergreen and eternal. Thank you so much for everything, God bless you always.”
