“We are investigating whether it was an attempted suicide or accident. We will be able to ascertain it only after he gains consciousness. A government railway police (GRP) guard has given a statement that he saw him (Yadav) jump in front of the train,” a senior police officer said.
Meanwhile, CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, health minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar and forest minister Sanjay Sharma visited the rape survivor at SMS Hospital late in the evening.
Congress targets BJP govt on gruesome attack on woman
The gruesome attack on a 25-year-old rape survivor in Behror-Kotputli has prompted the Opposition Congress to target the ruling BJP, which had put in the dock the then Congress government during the last assembly elections over rising atrocities against women.
The woman was shot at and attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by the rape accused and his two accomplices in Kotputli-Behror district. The woman’s brother was also injured in the attack. Both are undergoing treatment at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who reached SMS Hospital to meet the rape survivor, said that BJP defamed Rajasthan by targeting it in the assembly elections. He said Rajasthan was comparatively better than Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and many other states matters of crime against women during Congress rule.
“They continuously targeted and tarnished the state on atrocities on women. But what is happening in Rajasthan for the last two and a half months? The sad thing is that reports of rape, robbery and hooliganism are coming from all over Rajasthan these days. Allegations made by BJP against us in the elections should be the new government’s priority,” said Gehlot.
In a post on X, Gehlot said, “If the rape survivor had been given protection, this would not have happened. This is the negligence of the government. This matter should be investigated quickly, and justice should be ensured.”
Forest and environment minister Sanjay Sharma, speaking to the media, said police officers found delinquent should be taken to task. “The government will take the strictest action against them,” he said, adding that this incident could have been prevented if police had acted promptly on the victim’s complaint.
The state unit of Congress formed a four-member committee under former health minister Raghu Sharma to inquire into the incident and submit a fact-finding report to the party. Other members of the committee are former RTDC chairman Dharmendra Rathore, Rajasthan Child Rights Protection Commission chairperson Sangeeta Beniwal and former MLA (Virat Nagar) Indraj Gurjar.
The committee will submit the factual report of the entire matter to PCC president Govind Singh Dotasra. Mahila Congress president Rakhi Gautam also visited the rape survivor at the hospital.
