Riding without helmet most common violation in Dibrugarh | – Times of India

Dibrugarh: A recent special drive conducted by the traffic department in Dibrugarh revealed that riding a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet was the most common traffic violation in the town, followed by speeding and dangerous driving.
In February alone, 709 instances of helmetless riding violations and 431 cases of speeding and dangerous driving were detected.
According to traffic officers, interceptor vehicles were deployed at several strategic locations across Dibrugarh, including on the Bogibeel bridge, to spot and penalise traffic violators. The campaign, which took place between February 1 to February 25, aimed at improving road safety and reducing accidents in the town.
The use of interceptor vehicles proved to be effective in catching speedsters and reckless drivers, with 431 cases of speeding and dangerous driving being reported during the special drive. The formalities for the suspension of driving licences of the offenders were underway, officials said.
“The numbers are quite alarming and concerning. It is dangerous to ride a two-wheeler without wearing a helmet, and yet we continue to see a large number of people violating this basic traffic rule. Then there is the issue of speeding and dangerous driving which is a major cause of accidents on our roads. We are committed to cracking down on those who endanger the lives of others by driving recklessly,” said a traffic department official.
In response to the high number of violations detected, the traffic department has announced stricter enforcement measures to deter offenders.
