Kolkata: Gaudiya Mission (based in Bagbazar) has taken up a year-long programme to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of its founder Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad. The inaugural event was attended by PM Narendra Modi, who unveiled the commemorative coin and postal stamp on Feb 8.
According to Bhaktisundar Sanyasi Maharaj, the president of Gaudiya Mission, Kolkata will host a six-day Sri Chaitanya Janmotsav mela at Bagbazar from Wednesday.It will be followed by events in the UK, the US, Germany and Bangladesh. Commemorative events will also be held in Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Cuttack and Puri, among others. “In today’s world, we need to follow teachings of our founder that were based on love and peace,” said Bhaktisundar Sanyasi Maharaj.
