CHANDIGARH: Jalandhar Rural police arrested Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh’s brother Harpreet Singh and his friend Lovepreet Singh with ‘Ice’ drug (Methamphetamine) near Phillaur.
According to police their dope test was positive and a Ludhiana based drug peddler, from whom they allegedly procured the contraband, has also been arrested.
SSP Ankur Gupta said that a patrolling party spotted a Creta car parked on the roadside on National Highway – on Ludhiana to Jalandhar side – near Phillaur on Thursday evening.“As a car with tinted glasses parked like this appeared suspicious and the patrolling party then accosted those sitting in the car. Police found a lighter and other things and further search led to recovery of four grams of ‘Ice’ from them,” SSP Ankur Gupta told the media.
He said that both were then taken to hospital for a dope test. He said that after questioning police arrested Ludhiana resident Sandeep Arora, from whom they had procured the drug, and it also came out that the duo paid Rs 10,000 to him through Paytm.
He said that they would further investigate the backward links. He said that the contraband recovered from them was meant for consumption and not for further pedalling.
After initially registering the case against the two under sections 22 and 27 of the NDPS Act, pertaining to recovering of the contraband in small quantity and for consumption, police later after Sandeep Arora’s arrest added section 29 of the NDPS Act in the FIR.
Amritpal’s father Tarsem Singh told the media that it was a conspiracy to defame Amritpal and their family. He said that Harpreet had gone to Rayya in the afternoon on Thursday and in the evening they were unable to contact him as his mobile phone was switched off and on Friday morning they learnt from the media that he had been arrested by the Jalandhar police.
