From August 23 to 28, 2024, India will play a prominent role in the Moscow International Film Week (MIFW). This event, hosted by the Moscow Department of Culture and the Agency of Creative Industries, will transform Moscow into a major hub for global cinema. Eighteen Indian films will be showcased, with representatives from the Indian film industry attending to promote collaboration in cinema.
The festival will feature participation from over 40 countries, including delegations from China, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Thailand, and CIS countries, making it a significant event on the international film calendar.More than 300 screenings, including Russian and over 70 international films, will be held across Moscow.
MIFW is set to host around 200 events daily at 100 venues, presenting the latest in Indian cinema and fostering joint projects between Moscow and India. Moscow, with its advanced production facilities and digital support, is becoming an attractive destination for Indian filmmakers. “Several film festivals will coincide with Moscow International Film Week, offering visitors the chance to see films produced in Russia. Screenings will take place at various venues, from traditional cinemas to unique locations such as open-air pools, hotel rooftops, parks, and floating cinemas, providing a diverse viewing experience”, said Alexey Fursin, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow.
Notable Indian films to be featured include RRR: Rise Roar Revolt, Kalki 2898-AD, Baahubali: The Beginning, and Maidaan. The Indian delegation, including producer Swapna Dutt and director Nag Ashwin, will explore Moscow’s film infrastructure, which rivals that of India and the U.S., making it an ideal location for full-cycle film production.
