Art Deco THOMAS L MOTT orders Morpho Butterfly Wing Mourning Brooch Sterling Silver, England

Thomas L. Mott (also known by "TLM") was an English jewelry maker during the 1870s, and is known for popularizing natural butterfly wing jewelry. A surge in the demand for butterfly wing jewelry rose in the 1920s after a collection of pieces were shown at the 1924 British Exposition. Around the world people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and the life cycle. I bought this brooch in memory of my mother after she passed away.

The brooch features a bezel set beautiful iridescent blue butterfly wing under domed glass with a detailed frame. The wing, setting, and glass are in perfect antique condition throughout! The size is 37mm by 18mm, or roughly 1 and 1/2 inches by 3/4 inch. The dome rises 1/4 inch. The back has a secure T-Bar hinge and period "C" clasp. The brooch weighs 7 grams, and it is stamped TLM Sterling, Made in England.
