Sampson Bridgwood & Sons Ltd, Anchor Pottery, Sutherland Road, Longton,Stoke-on-Trent were earthenware manufacturers (also china up to 1887)...Sampson Bridgwood & Sons Ltd Factory was established in 1805 and moved to the Anchor Pottery Factory in 1853 in Longton, Staffordshire..They sold plain and slightly decorated goods, all new shapes and decorations of the most artistic characters..Sampson Bridgwood passed away in 1876...The business continued although the Bridgwood family were no longer involved, in 1890 John Gerrard Aynsley took over the business - the name Bridgwood & Son continued to be used...Although the company appears to have ceased producing china in the late 19th century, they continued to use tradenames such as semi-porcelain, porcelaine opaque, and limoges for their earthenwares...The company closed its doors in 1990...

For your consideration, I am offering a lot of five (5) lovely, 9 inch, early 1900's, English - Hand-Painted Lunch, Salad, Sandwich or Dessert PLATES in the Chrysanthemum pattern and manufactured by the Sampson Bridgwood & Sons Ltd Factory (S.B.&.S.) located in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England..

Each early 1900's plate depicts small clusters of hand-painted Chrysanthemum flowers with its greenery and stems in blues and reds with on shades of yellow background with scrolled and scalloped edging trimmed with gold and sponge gold ....

Originated and back stamped in the back in brown the early trademark on some of the plates with pattern Reg mark 869451 representing the year 1901.. Also the pattern No. 5122 A..

Light signs of previous use should be expected consistent with previous ownership- orders free of chips, cracks, hairlines, and slight to none on the utensil markings on the surface... Crazing is present to three of the five plates. There might be some underside nicks to the edging but topside looks good...
