Rare Antique orders 18th Century Swiss Pewter Liquid Measure Abraham And Adrian Hiller St.Gallen Switzerland 1770-1790 Collectible, A very rare 18th century antique pewter liquid measure Possibly originally used in an old pub or.
A very rare 18th century antique pewter liquid measure. Possibly originally used in an old pub or tavern, this piece bears the inscribed initials IE (possibly the original owner's initials and made during a time when I actually represented the letter J).
Worn touchmark near the rim for Abraham & Adrian Hiller.
Inside the measure, impressed into the inner base, is the standing bear mark for the city of St. Gallen in Switzerland, along with initials SG (St. Gallen) and HH (for the Hiller brothers).
Made between 1770-1790, this bears obvious signs of use, including some areas where holes have been plugged during the piece's 230-250 years of orders life.
Base is scratched with two mysterious sets of fractions - 95/44 and 6/12. Unfortunately, I do not know what these refer to.
Items made by the Hiller brothers are hard to come by and this is an excellent display piece that simply looks old and full of history.
Measure has a height of 6.75" (17cm) and has a maximum diameter of about 3.8" (9.7cm).
Weighs 518g.
