In July 1999, I self published a massive A2 size calendar called the 'Old Winery' along with a range of twelve A3 sized posters, half of which have since sold out. The remaining six posters are now available individually signed with a limited edition of 100.
The images range from old oak vats made in the 1920's that were used to make Penfolds famous fortified wines and Penfolds St Henri to barrels of the last Penfolds Grange made and matured at the winery in the 1990's.
Each offset print is de-bossed around the image area and printed on superb 300gsm paper that is no longer made.
All six images were shot at the beautiful Penfolds Magill Estate winery in South Australia from 1994 until 1998. At the time the winery which dates back to 1844 was almost derelict. With every door that I opened, I found another stunning image.
I took the best original transparency film for each image and printed Polaroid Transfer prints onto heavy water colour paper. This process was insanely difficult and took weeks to get all twelve images printed to the standard I demanded. The original Polaroid Transfer prints were then drum scanned and used to produce these posters.
Like the superb paper stock, the 5” x 4” Polaroid film that I used for this unique process is no longer available, so these images will never be repeated.
