Liquor traders get extension of a month for VAT registration | Goa News – Times of India

Margao: Minister for law and judiciary Aleixo Sequeira recently said that the last date for registration under the Value Added Tax (VAT) Act for small traders and village bars would be extended by a month.
Sequiera took up the matter with chief minister Pramod Sawant after some traders met him with a request for extension of the last date that ended on Thursday.
“Had they not to comply with that, a penalty of Rs 25,000 was to be imposed on them,” Sequeira told reporters after his interaction with the public at the south Goa collectorate.
“I took up the matter with the chief minister. He issued instructions to extend the last date for registration by a month. All those who had not applied until Thursday now have about a month to apply and comply with the requirements without having to pay any penalty.”
The 90-day time limit given to traders to register for VAT online ended on December 20.
The issue of regularization of unauthorised houses also came to the fore during Sequeira’s interaction with the public. A large number of applications in that regard are pending before the south Goa district collector, Sequeira said.
He told reporters: “We have tried to simplify the requirements (pertaining to regularisation of unauthorised houses) and hope to clear the pending applications at the earliest.”
As regards non-functional traffic signals, Sequeira said he has directed the highway authorities to get them repaired and make them functional. “I have also spoken to the contractor, and he has agreed to undertake the task,” Sequeira said.
