History-sheeter pulls out gun in eatery | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

Ahmedabad: A brawl over a petty issue turned into high drama at a restaurant in Ranasan, Gandhinagar, late on Wednesday night when a history-sheeter pointed a pistol at a man, and his aides attacked him with iron pipes, bats and knives. The accused has been arrested, with some help from people present at the scene.
Viram Mevada, a car dealer and resident of Yuvrajnagar in Rajkot, was at the restaurant with his friends when he saw the accused, later identified as Dharmendra Barad, 32, a resident of Krishnanagar in Ahmedabad, fighting with hotel staff over a petty issue.
Allegedly angered by Mevada looking at him, the accused abused him. When Mevada objected, one of the attackers slapped him and pulled a pistol on him. The pistol’s magazine fell in the ensuing scuffle. Barad’s aides attacked Mevada with pipes, bats and knives.
Mevada was slashed on the leg, thighs and abdomen and his gold chain worth Rs 8 lakh allegedly snatched. People at the restaurant caught Barad while his aides managed to escape. A team from Gandhinagar police arrived at the scene after a call from Mevada’s friend. Mevada was admitted to a private hospital near Vaishnodevi Circle where a medico-legal case was filed.
Dabhoda police later filed a complaint of causing grievous hurt, intentional insult to breach public peace, dacoity and robbery under IPC along with the charges of Arms Act and the Gujarat Police Act.
Sub-inspector MS Rana of Dabhoda police said Barad has been arrested and search for others involved is on.
