Ahmedabad: Tamil Nadu pacers Sandeep Warrier and Mohammed Mohammed struck regular blows to restrict Gujarat to 236 in the first innings of their Ranji Trophy match in Valsad on Friday. Both struck in their first overs as Gujarat lost openers Arya Desai (4) and Priyank Panchal (0) cheaply.
Manan Hingrajiya (65) and Umang Kumar (76) added 125 runs for the fourth wicket to take the score to 186.Just as Gujarat looked heading to a substantial total, Mohammed removed both and then claimed Urvil Patel (0) to reduce the hosts to 188 for six.
Ripal Patel (27) and Chintan Gaja (13) tried to revive the innings but Warrier and Mohammed kept striking at regular intervals. Mohammed finished with figures of five for 44, while Warrier claimed four for 57.
Strong start by Baroda
An unbeaten 112-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Mitesh Patel and Atit Sheth helped Baroda finished strongly on the first day of their Ranji Trophy match against Odisha. At the stumps, Mitesh was batting on 94, while Atit was unbeaten on 56 and Baroda had reached 322 for six.
Opener Jyotsnil Singh (73) and Ninad Rathwa (48) also made useful contributions to Baroda’s score.

Rajkot: A five-wicket haul by pace-bowling stalwart Chirag Jani and a half-century by opener Harvik Desai helped defending champions Saurashtra take the honours on day one of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Jharkhand here on Friday.
Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat won the toss and elected to bowl, with 34-year-old Jani running through the top and lower order as Jharkhand were dismissed for a paltry 142 in 49 overs.
At stumps, Saurashtra were strongly placed at 108 for 1, trailing by just 34 runs.
Jharkhand lost five wickets for 45 and could never recover. Kumar Kushaga (29), Shahbaz Nadeem (27) and Anukul Roy (24) tried to revive the innings but none could go on to play a long innings. Jani returned with figures of 11-6-22-5. Adityasinh Jadeja and Unadkat took two wickets each.
Saurashtra batters then utilised the home conditions to full effect with young Harvik Desai scoring 54 not out and sharing an unbeaten 81-run partnership with Sheldon Jackson (37 not out).
