Contempt Notice To Bar Members | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

Ahmedabad: A metropolitan court issued a contempt of court notice to office-bearers of its Bar association after a group of lawyers barged into a courtroom to complain about a magistrate’s conduct.
This happened last week when some lawyers practising in the metropolitan courts went to express their grievance about the high-handedness of the magistrate in a court dealing with negotiable instruments cases. The magistrate apologized for his conduct the previous day following the actions of the lawyers, who were led by office bearers of the Ahmedabad Criminal Court Bar Association, said a lawyer who was part of the group.
According to the sources, the group then entered another courtroom because Bar leaders had received a complaint about another judicial officer. This judge felt offended when some lawyers climbed on the dais. The lawyers accused the judge of malpractice by allowing his wife to practise in the same court. The judicial officer then issued contempt notices to three lawyers. A Bar representative said the hearing was scheduled for Monday, but has been adjourned till January 17, and a compromise is being explored. tnn
