The PM warmly embraced Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, popularly known as MBZ, at the airport.Then, the leaders embarked on a roadshow from the airport to Indira Bridge, travelling in the same vehicle.
Modi and MBZ waved to the cheering onlookers lining both sides of the road. Special welcome points were established at five locations along the route, where the dignitaries were received with traditional folk dances representing various states. Students also showcased yoga exercises at one of the points.
Later in the evening, PM Modi and the UAE president engaged in bilateral talks in Gandhinagar, followed by a dinner. Harsh Sanghavi, minister of state for home, overseeing the extensive security arrangements for the roadshow, highlighted the enthusiastic welcome the UAE dignitary received in Gujarat. He said, “Thousands of people cheered for PM Modi and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. They were welcomed with traditional dances from various states.”
Bilateral relations between India and the UAE have been flourishing in recent years. In 2015, PM Modi became the first Indian PM to visit the UAE in 34 years. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi in 2017.
In August 2019, Prime Minister Modi was honoured with the highest civilian award of the UAE, the Order of Zayed.
PM Modi visited the UAE in 2022 and 2023, resulting in joint statements on various international matters. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited India last September for the G20 summit.
