DFC from Dadri to Vetarna to be completed by March: Ashwini Vaishnaw | Ahmedabad News – Times of India

AHMEDABAD: The Dedicated freight corridor from Dadri to Vetarna will be completed by March this year and this will mark the completion of the DFC in the state.
The Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw held a meeting with the officials of the Indian Railway and Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) at the Operation Control Centre (OCC) of DFCCIL located at Sabarmati, Ahmedabad. Talking to reporters after the meeting Vaishnaw said the Dedicated freight corridor between Dadri and Sanand was fully operation and the remaining portion from Sanand top Vetarna will be operational by March 2024. This will mark completion of the 95% of the DFC corridor including the east west corridor also.
The minister said that only a small portion of the DFC corridor from Vetarna to Jawaharlal Nehru port trust is remaining and that was due to land acquisitions in Mumbai. However, the land acquistin has been completed and the work has also begun. The entire corridor is likely to be completed vby the end of this year.
Vaishnaw said that after 2014, the work of commissioning the Dedicated Freight Corridor gained momentum and now almost 89% of the work has been completed. The project was designed in 2004 and approved in 2007 and till 2014 the progress was negligible.
“Due to the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the cargo trains are now being run on this corridor while the passenger carrying trains are run on the regular conventional network. As on date, around 300 to 350 freight trains are plying daily over both Western and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridors which has enhanced the logistic efficiency by reduction in transit time by around 50% to 70%.
He said that with the DFC the capacity to have passengers trains on the conventional track will also increase.
Giving details of the western DFC officials said that at present there 90 trains operation from Dadri to Sanand and the average speed which was worked out was 55 km per hour which is parallel to Rajdhani Train. The track is designed to operate 120 train on each side in a day.
The officials said that they are in talks with Maruti to transport their cars in the old passengers wagons which are converted in parcel wagons. At present one train carrying 25 wagons of milk and milk products is going daily from Palanpur and reaches Delhi in less than 12 hours which was earlier 24 hours.
Giving break up of the work, the officer said that from Sanand to Makarpura was in the completion stage and will be completed by March this year. Further from, makarpura to Gothan the trail is going on and from Gothan to Holwad the track is already commissioned. He said that DFFCIL has been given the target to complete the track from Holwad to Vetarna by March 2024 and the work is going on in full swing.
