Ahmedabad: A man from Mehsana was recently caught at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in New Delhi when he was deported from Canada as he had torn away pages from his passport to destroy evidence of his illegal journey.
According to an FIR filed with IGI police, 25-year-old Nirmal Patel from Visnagar in Mehsana was deported from Canada and landed at the New Delhi airport on Jan 20.“During scrutiny of his passport, it was found that pages five to eight pages were missing from his passport and the Canadian visa was also missing,” said an FIR filed with the IGI police.
Patel has been booked for cheating under the IPC and the passport acts by the IGI police. A senior police officer of the IGI said that illegal emigrants usually remove passport and visa stickers to destroy evidence against them.TNN
