Interfaith couple facing threats approach high court

The couple got married despite opposition from the woman’s family. The couple started facing threats after her family came to know about it.
In their petition, the couple stated that the woman’s father lodged a missing person’s complaint with Nani Daman police last month despite having the knowledge that she has been living with her husband and in-laws in Valsad. They also claimed that under the pressure of social and religious organizations, the police inspector issued notice to the couple and the witnesses to their marriage and summoned them while acting on the complaint filed by the woman’s father. The cops summoned them despite the fact that the woman voluntarily left for her matrimonial home after registration of the marriage.
The couple claimed to have requested the Valsad rural police station for protection, but the cops expressed their inability to extend protection to them. Therefore, they approached the HC, which has issued a notice and sought response from the police.
Meanwhile, issuing a statement, Patel has called untrue her family’s allegations that she decamped with jewellery from her paternal home.
