Gandhinagar: Gujarat Congress president Shaktisinh Gohil and several party workers were arrested by the Ahmedabad police following a protest outside the Income Tax office on Ashram road on Saturday.
The protest was against the I-T department freezing Congress’s bank accounts, a move Gohil slammed as “undemocratic”.
“The BJP is resorting to undemocratic tactics to muzzle the opposition,” Gohil declared before his detention.“Our party’s official bank accounts have been frozen on the BJP government’s instruction. Today, they used the police to stifle our peaceful protest.”
The Congress party in its memorandum has accused the BJP of misusing government agencies to harass and intimidate the opposition. The BJP, on the other hand, has maintained that the Income Tax Department’s actions are based purely on financial irregularities and have nothing to do with politics.
