Ahmedabad: The number of students admitted under the Right to Education Act (RTE) in Ahmedabad city decreased by 12% in 2023-24 as compared to 2022-23. Similarly, in Ahmedabad rural, the number of students admitted under RTE reduced by 36% in the same period.
The state government in reply to a question by Jamalpur MLA Imran Khedawala said that in 2022-23, a total of 10,962 students were studying in Class I and this number was 9,647 in 2023-24.The govt stated that 12,062 students were admitted in Ahmedabad city in 2022-23 while it was 10,332 students in 2023-24.
The govt stated that as per the 25% norm under the RTE, 12,607 students can be accommodated in private schools in 2022-23. The number for 2023-24 was 14,323.
The govt said that in Ahmedabad rural, in 2022-23, a total of 1,132 students were studying in Class I and this number was 720 in 2023-24. The govt said 1,278 students were admitted in 2022-23 while it was 792 students in 2023-24. According to the 25% norm under RTE, 1,575 students can be accommodated in private schools in 2022-23 while the number was 1,753 for 2023-24.
Officials said that if one looks at the present strength of RTE students, it is clear that students leaving schools after admission was over 1,000 in the city in 2022-23, while the number was over 600 in 2023-24.
