Gandhinagar: Recognizing the rising menace of cybercrime, the state govt announced a specialized unit led by an additional DGP-rank officer. This unit will focus on both prevention and investigation of digital crimes.
“To address the emotional toll of these crimes and to ensure no call goes unanswered, a dedicated call centre with trained operators will be set up under the Trishul project,” said minister of state (MoS) for home Harsh Sanghavi.Gujarat will become the first state to appoint 650 IT experts to assist the police in tackling cybercrime.
Latest software will be purchased by the home department to prevent online fraud and track scamsters operating from other states, said the minister.
“We will bring all the cybercrime police stations under one umbrella so that victims in remote areas get timely help. New posts have been created,” Sanghavi said.
Sanghavi announced a slew of initiatives during his budgetary speech on Wednesday. He said that the state govt will set up one emergency helpline number — 112 — to ensure swifter police and emergency services. The response time will be 10 minutes in cities and 20 minutes in villages. To expedite the ‘112’ response, the home department will procure 1,100 new vehicles.
The state will also establish its own Special Action Force (SAF) along the lines of the central Rapid Action Force (RAF). This specialized unit, comprising trained personnel from the State Reserve Police (SRP), will be equipped with cutting-edge equipment to effectively respond to any emergency in the state.
To expedite the judicial process in narcotics cases, a separate cell will be set up to assist police stations with investigations and filing chargesheets within stipulated time frames, thus ensuring speedy trials.
