Ahmedabad: Arth Yadav’s all-round performance helped Saurashtra decimate Assam by an innings and 99 in their Col C K Nayudu Trophy match at the Sanosara Cricket Ground ‘B’ in Rajkot.
Batting first, Saurashtra had a steady start and at 265 for seven in 83.5 overs, seemed heading for a competitive first-innings total. That’s when Yadav joined forces with middle-order batter P Rana.The duo added 206 runs for the eighth wicket.
Rana smashed seven sixes and 20 boundaries in his 325-ball 235, while Yadav remained unbeaten on 100 (204b; 9×4, 1×6). Opener Nihar Rana was the other significant contributor with a knock of 62 (109b) as Saurashtra declared their first essay at 502/9.
Assam, in reply, were bowled out for 204 in 69.1 overs in their first innings, with the spin bowling duo of left-arm spinner Samar Gajjar and off spinner Yadav grabbing seven wickets among them.
Gajjar (4/57) and Yadav (3/48) forced Assam to follow on. For the visitors, Dipankar Paul top scored with 51 and Saurav Dey, batting at number eight, hit a 51-ball 50.
Following on, Gajjar (4/52) and Yadav (4/71) again came to the fore for the hosts as Assam were bowled out for 199 in 60.5 overs, with Bishal Rop top scoring with 73.
By virtue of this win, Saurashtra reached the quarterfinal, in which they play Uttar Pradesh at the in Kanpur from Sunday.
