Ahmedabad: While India has gods of human and animal amalgamation from Lord Ganesha to Lord Varaha, the Egyptian pantheon is also replete with gods such as falcon-headed Horus to lion-headed Sekhmet. If India has Goddess Saraswati associated with wisdom, Greeks and Romans had Athena or Minerva playing the same role. The exhibition ‘Ancient Sculptures’ by the Museum on Wheels project of Citi and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) covered the replicas of sculptures from India, Egypt, Assyria, Greece and Rome.
The exhibition was held on the premises of LD Museum. “The concept of the initiative is to take the museum to the people when people cannot come to museum. The theme this time is of ancient civilizations and gods and goddesses so that the visitors can ascertain the similarities and differences and understand that the stories travelled across the globe through trade and wars,” said a senior official. It is the eighth year of the exhibition and second in the city. The specially designed bus has travelled extensively in rural and urban parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Delhi and Rajasthan.
